"We will praise God as we declare that christ is our savior, proclaim the gospel, serve our neighbors in the community and the world, and love one another."

Our Community is open to all people. The beautiful sanctuary is handicap accessible. You are invited to come and experience people who will listen… and accept you.

We are a people who believe nobody's perfect, yet through God's nurturing love, all can find acceptance and growth.

Our congregation has been "In the City for Good" these past 125 years and is one of the 11,000 churches of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the largest Lutheran Church body in the United States.

We are a gospel centered congregation and a hospitable place of worship and learning. We treasure our tradition of excellent music and the choir provides special music during festival times of the year.

Holy Communion Lutheran Church is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States. The re-formation of the Church in the 1500s, led by Martin Luther, gave us our name. We need to hear again and again of God's deep love at the heart of all things, a love for all people and a longing for reciprocal love. In Jesus' life we see this love, encouraging us to value not the prizes of the world but rather the opportunity to live in relationship with God.

Lutherans see themselves as evangelical (preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ), catholic (part of the universal tradition of the Church), and orthodox (affirming the creeds and confessions of Christians through the ages). Our life together is centered on grace, God's healing and reconciling concern for all creation. Among the primary ways in which we receive this grace is through the gifts of God's Word and the Sacraments: Baptism and the Eucharist (the Lord's Supper).

At the Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion, you will have many opportunities to live out your faith. In addition to supporting community service programs such as the Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, the Bethesda Project, and Philabundance, volunteers from our outreach ministry maintain a food pantry that distributes groceries to over 200 people a month. Through our small groups ministry, you can interact with others who welcome the exchange of thought, insight, care and concern on many topics.  Our evangelism ministry seeks to make the good news of Jesus Christ available to all people.

Take advantage of the many opportunities for learning through our Bible studies, discussion groups, Sunday classes for children and adults. Recent topics have included: An Introduction to the New Testament; What the Lutheran Church Has to Say About End of Life Issues; and The Gospel According to the Lord of the Rings.

Holy Communion Lutheran Church is a Reconciled in Christ congregation, which means that gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people are welcome and encouraged to participate fully in the life of the congregation.  GLBT people are active in a variety of ways in our congregation and on our staff.
